SOCIETY & ASSOCIATIONS
Various students societies and associations having a constitution of their own, amended from time to time and when required exits in the college as follows : The College Union The name of the Union shall be the S.R.Mahavidyalaya students Union. AIMS The aims of the union are i) To foster & encourage cooperate academic, life unity, fellow feeling and sprit of co-operating among the members of the Union. ii) To organize discussion an general, cultural and academic problems. iii) To invite eminent persons to address Union. iv) To organize debates. v) To discharge such other function as the Principal may prescribe or as the Executive Committee shall decide with the previous permission of the Principal. Member of the Union Every student except those of +2 Classes of the college is a member of the Union. No one whose name is not on the rolls of the College can be member of the Union. All members of the teaching staff if they so desire can take part of the proceedings of meetings. The Executive Committee The following shall be the office bearers of the college Union. i) The President. ii) The Vice-President iii) The Secretary iv) The Asst. Secretary v) One student representative to be elected from each class of +3 level. vi) One woman student representative. PRESIDENT : Any member of the Union belonging to the 3rd (Third) Year of +3 Degree class is eligible to stand for election to Presidentship of the Union. The President shall preside over all ordinary meetings of the Union at which he is president. He shall be responsible for maintaining order and interpreting the rules. His rulings shall be final except when he requests the Adviser to give a ruling in which case the ruling of the Adviser shall be final. VICE-PRESIDENT : The Vice-President shall be a student of the +3 Pre-Degree (Arts/Science) classes. In the absence of the President, the Vice-President shall assume all his rights and discharge all his duty. SECRETARY : Any member of the Union shall stand for election to the Secretaryship of the college Union. The Secretary shall arrange debates, give notice for all meetings whether annual, ordinary or extraordinary. He shall record the minutes of all meetings. He shall select the subject for debate in consultation with the Principal and Adviser. He shall keep the accounts of the Union. ASSISTANT SECRETARY : Any member of the Union can be candidate for the post of Assistant Secretary. The Assistant Secretary shall assist the Secretary in the discharge of his duties and in his absence performs all his functions. ADVISER : The Adviser shall be present at all meetings of the Union. He will assist by helpful suggestions. If necessary, the proper conduct of the meeting. The president may refer to him any rule for interpretation and the decision of the Advisor shall be final. He may at any time during a meeting or at the request of the president explain the scope and effect of a motion or amendment. ASSOCIATE ADVISER : The Associate Adviser shall assist the adviser in all matters concerning the College Union. The Associate Adviser shall in the absence of the adviser, assume all duties of the adviser. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE : The Executive Committee of the Union shall discuss the budget at an annual meeting of the Committee and decide from time to time all other matters concerning the activities of the Union. Union Fund: All the members of the union shall pay a consolidated membership fee per annum to be collected by the college office. ELECTION OF OFFICE BEARERS : (ii) The annual election shall take place on such date and manner as fixed by the Principal/Government. (iii) No member shall give more than one vote for each Office to be filled (iv) Election shall be conducted and votes recorded and attested in such manner as the Principal shall determine. (v) The candidate obtaining the largest number of votes shall be deemed to be elected. (vi) In case an equality of votes between any two or more candidates the election of the successful candidates shall be determined by lot. VACANCIES IN OFFICES : The Office bearers shall hold office for the entire academic session unless they (i) Cease to be students of the college. (ii) Voluntarily resign in writing addressed to the Principal. (iii) Are removed by a motion passed by a two third majority of the members present and voting expressing want of confidence in them, at an extraordinary meeting called for the purpose. (iv) Any office falling vacant shall be filled by holding a by-election. The procedure for the by-election will be the same as for the annual election. EXTRAORDINARY MEETING : An extraordinary meeting of the Union may be convened (i) At a Principal's discretion. (ii) On a written requisition addressed to the Principal and signed by not less than members of the Union. The Principal or his nominee shall preside over the meetings. ORIDNARY MEETING : All meetings other than mentioned in above shall be deemed ordinary meeting which will be usually presided over by the President. Ordinary meetings shall be arranged by the Secretary in consultation with the President. At least two days notice shall be given for every ordinary meeting. PROCEDURE OF MEETING : 1. In the absence of both the President and Vice-President from an ordinary meeting, the members present will elect a Chairman from among themselves. The adviser will take the chair till the election of the Chairman. The Chairman shall assume all the rights and discharge all the duties of the President during the meeting. 2. At the commencement of each ordinary meeting the Secretary shall read the minutes of last ordinary meeting and other meetings of the Union, if any. The minutes on being approved shall be signed by the President. 3. Every speech shall be relevant to the subject. No proposal reflection shall be made in course of the meeting. 4. All questions in the debate shall be determined by majority of the votes of the members present. 5. If the votes are equally divided, the President shall decide questions by lot. 6. The Principal's decision shall be final in all matters, relating to the Union.
